How to Choose Pineapple

Look for a pineapple with a plump shape. Smell the stem end—it should be sweet and aromatic, not heavy or fermented. The pineapple should be slightly soft to the touch, heavy for its size, and have dark green leaves. Avoid those with mold, bruises, and dark, watery eyes.

Benefits of Pineapple

How to Peel Pineapple and Cut it Into Rings

Tropical fruit, such as pineapple and mango, require individual treatment. Pineapple is peeled with a large knife to remove the skin and “eyes”, while mango flesh is sliced off the stone, then scored into cubes before being cut from the skin.

How to Store Pineapple

Refrigerate ripe pineapple for up to 2 days

STEP 1: With a chefs knife, cut off the plume and base of the pineapple and set it upright, base-end down, on a chopping board. Cut away the peel in strips, working from top to bottom following the curve of the fruit and cutting deeply enough to remove the eyes with the peel.

How to Eat Pineapple

  • Suggestions: in Smoothies, fresh cut in chunks, pineapple rice, Asian recipes pineapple relish, dried in the oven as a snack; boil the peel to make a super healthy water.
  • Pineapple water: thoroughly scrub a pineapple, peel and serve; but boil the peel in a good quantity of water. You can add 2-3 cloves and even a cinnamon stick. Boil for 20 minutes. Strain and let it cool. Pour it in a glass jar and drink all through the day. You can also add few lemon-lime slices before serving.
  • It is extremely diuretic, excellent against cellulite, and anti-inflammatory.

  • Combinations:
    • Mango, pineapple, strawberries and banana.
