Kohlrabi
Kohlrabi is a member of the turnip family and is also called cabbage turnip. It has a mild flavor and tastes like a sweet turnip. Unless young, kohlrabi is too fibrous in texture so try to choose a kohlrabi that is heavy for its size. The leaves should be firm and deep green. It is delicious steamed and served with lemon juice and olive oil while still warm. Although it is best steamed kohlrabi can also be added to soups and stews. It stores well in the refrigerator when tightly wrapped up. It is an excellent source of potassium and vitamin C.
