Chinese Cuisine: Shrimp with Broccoli Recipe
Ingredients
- 1 lb peeled shrimp
- Oil for deep frying

- 1 cup chicken stock
- 2 tsps cornstarch
- Freshly ground black pepper and salt to taste
- Pinch-monosodium glutamate (optional)
- 1 tsp sugar
- #Seasoning#
- 2 tbsps cooked oil, or oil from deep frying the shrimp
- Pinch salt
- ½ tsp sugar

- 2 tsps cornstarch
- 8 oz broccoli cut into 3-inch pieces
- 1 carrot, peeled and sliced
- 2 cloves garlic, peeled and chopped
- ½ inch fresh root ginger, peeled and chopped
Instructions
- #This dish is also suitable as an appetizer in small quantities.# Deep-fry the shrimp in hot oil for 1-2 minutes. Drain the shrimp and keep to one side. Keep the oil.
- Mix the sauce ingredients together. Mix the seasoning ingredients together in a separate bowl.
- Cook the broccoli in boiling water for 1 minute. Drain and add cold water to cover. Drain once again and mix the broccoli with the seasoning ingredients.
- Heat the wok and add 2 tbsps cooked oil. Add the carrot, garlic and ginger and stir-fry for 1 minute. Add the broccoli and stir-fry for 1 minute more.
- Add the shrimp and stir-fry for 1/2 minute then add the blended sauce ingredients. Cook gently until the sauce thickens. Serve immediately. #TIME# Preparation takes 10 minutes, cooking takes 8-10 minutes.
