The Perfect Steak Recipe

INGREDIENTS

  • 4 thick New York or sirloin steaks
  • Oil
  • Cracked black pepper

INSTRUCTIONS

1 Heat a trypan over medium heat for 5 minutes or until hot. Brush steaks with a little oil and sprinkle with cracked pepper.

2 Place steaks in frypan and do not turn until they are sealed.

3 Cook steaks until juices rise to the uncooked side, which usually takes about 11/2 minutes. Turn steaks and cook for 1 minute more for medium rare, or for 2 minutes more for medium to well done.

4 Test to see if steaks are ready by pressing them with tongs. The less movement, the more cooked they are. Avoid cutting steaks to see if they are cooked, as this only releases the juices and dries them out.

Press chopped green peppercorns into steaks after brushing with oil.

MUSTARD STEAK

Spread wholegrain mustard over steaks, brush with oil and then cook.

PESTO STEAK

After turning steaks in pan, spread cooked sides with pesto.
